WEEKEND HYPE — What’s Worth Doing in FoCo
Fort Collins has a real anchor event this weekend, which makes planning easier than usual. You’ve got the St. Patrick’s Day Parade back in Old Town, Great Plates wrapping up, a couple of legit date-night picks, and enough free options to avoid the “we spent $200 by accident” problem.
St. Patrick’s Day Parade + Old Town Irish Celebration
Teaser: This is the big community play if you want one event that feels like FoCo showing up for FoCo.
The Gist: The St. Patrick’s Day Parade returns to Old Town on Saturday, March 14 at 10:00 a.m., followed by the Old Town Irish Celebration in Old Town Square through 4:00 p.m.
Why It Matters: It’s free, family-friendly, and gives you an easy downtown base for coffee, lunch, and a few spontaneous side quests.
Amir K at The Comedy Fort
Teaser: Strong pick for adults who want a guaranteed laugh instead of another “let’s just wander and see.”
The Gist: Amir K is at The Comedy Fort on Friday, March 13, with a listed 8:30 p.m. show in Old Town.
Why It Matters: It’s one of the cleaner date-night anchors this weekend, especially if you want dinner nearby and no overthinking.
Weekend Toons at The Lyric
Teaser: One of the easiest low-lift family moves in town.
The Gist: The Lyric’s Weekend Toons runs Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to noon, with free cartoons and a $6 all-you-can-eat cereal bar.
Why It Matters: Cheap, nostalgic, indoors, and easy to pair with a slower family morning. Worth it if you want something fun without turning it into a production.
Great Plates of Downtown™ final weekend
Teaser: This is your last call if you’ve been saying you’d do Great Plates “sometime this week.”
The Gist: Great Plates runs through March 14, with 49 participating downtown restaurants offering special menus at $15-and-under, $25, $35, and $45 price points, with donations benefiting the Food Bank for Larimer County.
Why It Matters: It’s one of the better “everyone wins” Fort Collins traditions — good excuse to try a spot, revisit a favorite, and do something useful while you eat.
Great Plates of Downtown

🔑 THIS WEEK IN FOCO (TOP 3)
Must-do: St. Patrick’s Day Parade is back in Old Town on Saturday at 10 a.m., with the Irish Celebration running right after until 4 p.m.
Useful update: The City says the Lemay Avenue Water System Improvement Project starts March 16, with southbound Lemay closures around active work zones between Horsetooth and Harmony.
Feel-good/local win: Great Plates is back for its 21st year and has raised more than $1.3 million for the Food Bank for Larimer County since 2008.

THE PULSE — Around Town & Outside
Old Town is the main character this weekend
The Gist: Saturday’s parade and Irish Celebration should make downtown the obvious hub for most of the day.
Why It Matters: Parking, brunch timing, and reservations matter more than usual. Plan a little earlier than your future self thinks is necessary.
Great Plates ends Saturday
The Gist: March 14 is the final day to catch Great Plates specials at participating downtown restaurants.
Why It Matters: If you want the “let’s go somewhere good” plan without paying full weekend indecision tax, this is the move.
CSU has two easy free exhibit options right now
The Gist: Morgan Library is hosting both On the Walls at CSU: Posters from the 1970s and Saving the Past for the Future: 50 Years of Archives at CSU through spring.
Why It Matters: Good backup plan for a quieter afternoon, and a nice reminder that CSU is still one of the better free culture plays in town.
Youth Art Month is up at the Center for Creativity
The Gist: The City calendar shows the C4C Youth Art Month Exhibition running on multiple dates in March.
Why It Matters: It’s a simple, local, low-pressure stop if you want something family-friendly that still feels like you left the house for a reason.
Fossil Creek Trail closure is still in effect
The Gist: The City says the Fossil Creek Trail segment between Trilby Road and Carpenter Road remains closed through March 31 for stream rehabilitation work.
Why It Matters: If your weekend reset plan includes a ride or run there, reroute before you’re annoyed in the parking lot.
Mountain/outside note
The Gist: Trail Ridge Road is closed to through traffic for the winter season, and RMNP says trail snow and ice still vary a lot by elevation and sun exposure. Colorado NRCS also showed statewide snowpack well below median entering March.
Why It Matters: If you’re heading west, treat it like shoulder-season winter, not spring in Old Town.
RESTAURANT & BREWERY SPOTLIGHT
Ginger and Baker — River District
Locals like it because it nails the “take your parents here,” “grab coffee here,” and “we should split pie” categories without feeling stuffy. This week it fits because downtown is busy, Great Plates is wrapping, and this is one of those comfort-forward places that works before or after a parade loop.
CooperSmith’s Pub & Brewing — Old Town Square
A longtime Old Town staple with house beer, easy patio energy, and a location that makes it ideal for parade-day logistics. This week it fits because you can actually make it part of the event flow instead of adding another drive across town. Solid pick if your group wants familiar over experimental.
little on mountain — West Mountain
Locals like it for the tighter, more intentional dinner feel without going full special-occasion mode. This week it fits well if you want your one nicer meal to feel worth it after a busier downtown day.

SPOTLIGHT STORY — Colorado State University students continue launching community-focused research and local projects across Northern Colorado.
Recent CSU initiatives have focused on sustainability, community partnerships, and supporting local economies across Larimer County. Programs often involve students collaborating directly with local organizations and municipalities to solve real-world problems.
Why this matters for Loveland:
A huge portion of innovation and volunteer energy in Northern Colorado flows from CSU students and faculty — many of whom live, work, or spend weekends right here.
That steady pipeline of new ideas helps shape the region’s business growth, nonprofits, and community initiatives year after year.

💛 FEEL-GOOD FOCO — Good News
CSU’s annual CSUnity day of service is already gearing up for April 19, and the early push says a lot about the kind of town Fort Collins still is. Colorado State is actively recruiting volunteers for a large-scale community service day, with registration open through March 30. The event is built around students, staff, and community members stepping into hands-on projects that support the broader Fort Collins area.
It’s not flashy, and that’s kind of the point. FoCo is at its best when people actually show up for each other in practical ways. One of the better things about CSU is that when it leans into its land-grant identity, the town feels it. This is one of those cases.
Also worth noting: CSU’s Ram Talks spring lineup is continuing in partnership with Visit Fort Collins, bringing public-facing research conversations into Old Town. That kind of university-town crossover is easy to take for granted, but it’s part of what makes Fort Collins feel more connected than a lot of places its size.

Quick reminder for this weekend: spring in Fort Collins is still fake spring. If you’re heading toward Horsetooth, the foothills, or RMNP, check trail and road conditions first, and don’t assume a mild in-town forecast means dry pavement or dry trails up higher.
