WEEKEND HYPE — What’s Worth Doing in FoCo
Family Pick: FCMoD Autism Resource Fair
Teaser: One of the rare Sunday events that feels both useful and easy to say yes to.
Link: Fort Collins Autism Resource Fair
The Gist: The free annual fair runs Sunday, May 3 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Fort Collins Museum of Discovery, with arts and crafts, games, face painting, Lego building, social meetups, food trucks, and a keynote from Dr. Temple Grandin.
Why It Matters: This is the kind of family plan that gives people something real to do without turning the whole day into logistics.
Adults/Nightlife Pick: Fort Collins Symphony — Rhythms of Diversity and Energy
Teaser: A better-than-default Saturday night if you want something that feels like you made an actual plan.
Link: Fort Collins Symphony at The Lincoln Center
The Gist: The symphony plays Saturday, May 2 at 7:30 p.m. at The Lincoln Center, with a program featuring Michael Torke, Gabriela Lena Frank collaborator Daniel Freiberg, and Copland’s Symphony No. 3.
Why It Matters: It gives the weekend one polished, grown-up anchor that isn’t just “grab a drink somewhere and see what happens.”
Free Pick: Petrichor Collective’s First Friday Art Storm
Teaser: Old Town actually has some energy behind it Friday night.
Link: First Friday Art Storm 2026
The Gist: Friday, May 1 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., Old Town Square fills with 50+ local artists and live music as Art Week gets rolling.
Why It Matters: This is the easiest “we should go do something” option of the weekend.
Wildcard: Bald Eagle Viewing at River Bluffs
Teaser: Surprisingly cool, low-stress, and good for all ages.
Link: Bald Eagle Viewing
The Gist: Saturday, May 2 from 10 a.m. to noon, Larimer County staff and volunteers will have spotting scopes out at River Bluffs Open Space and the Poudre River Trail.
Why It Matters: It’s one of those local events that feels small until you go, and then you’re glad you did.

🔑 THIS WEEK IN FOCO (TOP 3)
Must-Do: Art Week Fort Collins starts Friday, May 1, and this opening weekend is the strongest downtown draw FoCo has right now.
Useful Update: Horsetooth Reservoir has a 7 p.m. hard closure because of paving work, so reservoir plans work better as an early-day play than a late linger.
Feel-Good / Local Win: The City of Fort Collins picked up a 2026 Vision Zero for Youth U.S. Leadership Award for work improving walk-and-bike safety for kids.
✈️ QUICK ESCAPES —Easy Colorado Plans
Rocky Mountain National Park Day Trip
Timing: Early start, back by dinner
Why it works this weekend: Timed entry reservations do not begin until May 22, 2026, so this is still one of the simpler spring weekends to make a Rocky plan.
Source link: RMNP timed entry info
The Gist: If you’ve been meaning to do a spring mountain reset without a heavy planning burden, this is a clean window.
Why It Matters: Easy access weekends in Rocky don’t last long once late May hits.
Horsetooth Overnight
Timing: One-night campground stay or late stay-close-to-home reset
Why it works this weekend: Boating season opened April 1, and Horsetooth is already in that “feels like summer, still close to home” zone.
Source link: Horsetooth Reservoir
The Gist: You can make it feel like a getaway without burning half your weekend on I-25.
Why It Matters: This is a solid option for people who want the mood of a trip without the drag of a real travel day.
Poudre Canyon / Gateway Natural Area Outdoor Plan
Timing: Half day
Why it works this weekend: Gateway Natural Area is close, scenic, and set up for picnics, fishing, and a quick mountain-feel reset.
Source link: Gateway Natural Area
The Gist: Start at Gateway, stretch your legs, then keep heading up the canyon if you want more river time.
Why It Matters: It’s one of the easiest ways to get mountain payoff without committing to a full travel weekend.

Art Week opens Friday

The Gist: Art Week runs May 1-9 and the opening weekend is packed with workshops, public art energy, and downtown traffic.
Why It Matters: If you’re already heading toward Old Town, this is the weekend to build around it.
Horsetooth’s evening timing is tighter right now
Source: Horsetooth Reservoir
The Gist: Temporary paving work has shifted gate hours, and visitors need to be off the water by 7 p.m.
Why It Matters: This saves you from building your Saturday around a late reservoir plan that now has less room.
Gateway Natural Area has truck activity
Source: Gateway Natural Area
The Gist: The City says visitors may encounter large trucks moving through the area over the next several months.
Why It Matters: Still a good canyon plan, just one to do with a little more awareness.
River Bluffs has a legit Saturday morning nature option
Source: Bald Eagle Viewing
The Gist: Larimer County is running a bald eagle viewing program Saturday morning with scopes and repeated highlights.
Why It Matters: It gives FoCo one more family-friendly outing that isn’t another playground lap.
The city picked up a safety award worth noticing
Source: City of Fort Collins News
The Gist: Fort Collins received a national Vision Zero for Youth award tied to safer walking and biking conditions for kids.
Why It Matters: It’s a useful reminder that some of the best local wins are the ones you feel in daily life, not just ribbon cuttings.
RESTAURANT & BREWERY SPOTLIGHT
Café Vino — Midtown
Why locals like it: Cozy room, strong wine list, and a menu that feels like a real night out without being stuffy.
Why it fits this week: If Friday or Saturday turns into “let’s do one thing well,” this is a good reservation-worthy call.
Website: Café Vino
The Colorado Room — South College
Why locals like it: It leans hard into local food, drinks, art, and goods without making a fuss about it.
Why it fits this week: Great fallback when your plans become “downtown-adjacent, easy, and still very FoCo.”
Website: The Colorado Room
Zwei Brewing — South Mason
Why locals like it: German-style beer, relaxed tables, and a taproom that works for both small hangs and casual groups.
Why it fits this week: They’ve got Maifeiertag on May 2, which makes this a strong Saturday brewery pick.

SPOTLIGHT STORY — Why Art Week Feels Bigger This Year
Art Week has turned into one of those Fort Collins events that makes the city feel more connected to itself.
What started with a downtown foundation is now being carried forward by the Fort Collins Mural Project with support from the Downtown Development Authority, and that shift matters. It feels less like a one-off calendar item and more like a community-built push to make art part of how people actually move through town.
This year’s opening weekend is a good example. You’ve got the public-facing draw of First Friday and Art Storm, but also workshops, talks, and kid-friendly ways to participate listed in the Art Week guide. That combination is what makes it land. It gives downtown regulars, families, and the “we should probably get out of the house” crowd different ways in.
For FoCo, that’s the sweet spot. Not art as background decoration. Art as an actual weekend plan.

💛 FEEL-GOOD FOCO — Good News
One of the better local wins this week didn’t come with a ribbon cutting. It came through Larimer County’s small grants program, which awarded $24,711 across seven community projects that help people connect with the outdoors.
A few of the Fort Collins-area picks are exactly the kind of things that make this place feel like itself: CSU’s Environmental Learning Center got support for expanding an outdoor STEM kit, Northern Colorado Foodshed got backing for native pollinator habitat work, and St. Luke’s received funding tied to xeriscaping and creation care. There’s also money going toward Russian olive removal at Trails at Vista Bonita.
None of that is flashy. All of it is useful. It’s the kind of local investment that makes neighborhoods feel a little more cared for, a little more resilient, and a little more like FoCo is still willing to fund the quiet stuff that improves daily life.

Spring in Fort Collins means wind, hail, and quick temperature swings, so this is a smart week to check gutters, exterior drains, and anything loose in the yard before the next storm cycle.

Meet Sonrisa and I am a sweet, sensitive and energetic lady who is looking for a dog savvy home that loves cattle dogs! I can be shy with new people and am slow to warm up to men, so I would like to meet all members in the household at the shelter before going home. I may take a few days to warm up in my new home and I would love a quiet home without kids. While I can be shy once I am comfortable I am affectionate, loving, playful and love going on walks. I may enjoy living with another dog and would love an in shelter meet and greet since I can be rambunctious with my friends. I can't wait to meet you!!
